Defense Verdict Secured in Iowa Civil Rights Case
Lamson Dugan & Murray attorney Janice Thomas recently secured a defense verdict in the Iowa District Court for Jasper County on behalf of a client who owns a manufactured home community.
The case involved allegations brought by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, which claimed the community owner violated the Iowa Civil Rights Act by requiring a tenant to pay a refundable animal deposit. Following a full trial, the jury deliberated for less than an hour before unanimously finding that the owner did not engage in unlawful discrimination.
This result highlights the importance of careful policy implementation by property owners and reinforces LDM’s commitment to defending clients in civil rights and fair housing matters across the region.
