Defense Verdict Secured in Iowa Civil Rights Case

Lamson Dugan & Murray attorney Janice Thomas recently secured a defense verdict in the Iowa District Court for Jasper County on behalf of a client who owns a manufactured home community.

The case involved allegations brought by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, which claimed the community owner violated the Iowa Civil Rights Act by requiring a tenant to pay a refundable animal deposit. Following a full trial, the jury deliberated for less than an hour before unanimously finding that the owner did not engage in unlawful discrimination.
