Testimonials

“I chose and have continued working for LDM over the last five years because the Firm offers me the best available opportunity to become a great attorney. From day one, I worked on significant matters in important cases. I was not buried in menial work. Instead, I was challenged, and those challenges are what allowed me to grow. In the same token, I was never given a challenge that was beyond my capabilities. LDM has a deep bench of experience and talented litigators. They watched me work through these challenges and grow from them. Only firms with a deep bench like this can offer this opportunity. When looking at a firm, there’s a balance between the importance of learning from the best, which you can do at a firm with many talented litigators. However, too large a firm and you may not be able to undertake important work for quite some time.”

David Changstrom

Associate, Omaha

“LDM provides a small firm feel with big firm resources and experience. There’s a reason people say the Midwest is the best! With locations in Omaha and Des Moines, the folks at LDM are down to earth, collaborative, and fun to work with.”

Sarah Schleisman

Associate, West Des Moines

“LDM stands apart from other firms because of its combination of expertise and culture. It’s rare to find a law firm where you get to learn from and work with Omaha’s top attorneys and have numerous firm events like trivia nights, baseball outings and Top Golf. The mentorship program and open-door atmosphere allows for excellent development of a young attorney’s legal career.”

Phillip Sanberg

Associate, Omaha

“What sets LDM apart from other firms is that there’s an emphasis on getting experience going to hearings, depositions and trials early-on.  Not all firms place such an emphasis on getting their young attorneys experience. I have been out of school four years now and have had two jury trials, an oral argument before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, drafted an appeal to the Nebraska Court of Appeals, have conducted and defended countless depositions, and argued countless hearings. I’ve had the opportunity to take the lead on various cases and go to my mentors at the Firm for advice and wisdom if I need it. LDM continues to place an emphasis on having its associate attorneys get experience in the courtroom and give them opportunities to develop good judgment.”

Master your interviews

Interview Resources

As you prepare to step into the world of legal interviews, we’ve got your back. Here at LDM, we believe that the path to success begins with thorough preparation and confidence. Here are a few interview resources to help you prepare – no matter if you apply at our Firm or somewhere else.

What to Ask in an Interview

Interviews are not just about answering questions; they are your chance to shine. Show your enthusiasm and curiosity by asking insightful questions. Consider inquiries like:

  • Could you tell me more about the firm’s most impactful recent case and how it aligns with my potential role?
  • What is the firm’s approach to professional development and mentorship for associates and law clerks?
  • How does the firm stay at the forefront of emerging legal trends in [practice area]?
  • What are some work habits that you believe help a law clerk or associate be successful at your firm?
  • How would you describe the culture of the firm?
  • Where do you see the firm developing in the next five years?

Asking thoughtful questions demonstrates your genuine interest and helps you gauge whether the firm aligns with your goals.

Nailing Your Interview Attire

First impressions matter, especially in the legal world. Dressing appropriately showcases your professionalism and respect for the process. Opt for a classic business attire that exudes confidence:

For men: A tailored suit, crisp dress shirt, tie, polished shoes, and minimal accessories.

For women: A well-fitted pantsuit or skirt suit, a professional blouse.

Remember, confidence blooms when you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.

Prepare to Impress

Preparation is your secret weapon for interview success. Here’s a roadmap to follow:

  • Research the Firm: Dive deep into the firm’s history, values, recent cases, and attorneys. Show that you’ve done your homework.
  • Craft Your Story: Be ready to discuss your journey, experiences, and why you’re drawn to the legal field. Highlight skills that make you an asset.
  • Practice Responses: Anticipate common interview questions (e.g., strengths, weaknesses, teamwork examples) and rehearse your answers. But stay authentic!
  • Mock Interviews: Enlist a friend or mentor for mock interviews. Constructive feedback can be a game-changer.
  • Questions List: Prepare a list of questions to ask your interviewers – showcase your curiosity about the firm’s culture, growth opportunities, and expectations.

Remember, preparation is the bridge between uncertainty and confidence.
