Mr. Novotny is a partner of Lamson, Dugan and Murray and a member of the Firm's Litigation Department. He regularly addresses litigation matters, including defense of healthcare professionals and entities in medical negligence actions, product liability defense, insurance defense and general civil litigation. He also has developed a large litigation and appellate practice (causation, subrogation, coverage and statute of limitations issues for healthcare providers, product liability, commercial and corporate matters, and general civil litigation). He has established a working relationship with many experts to establish the standard of care and to address the other issues that arise in defending professional negligence actions for hospitals, physicians and allied healthcare providers, product liability and general civil litigation matters.

Mr. Novotny's work for hospitals includes defense of EMTALA claims, malpractice claims, and general liability claims, and medical information issues including National Practitioner's Data Bank reports and requests for peer review information, and collection matters. Mr. Novotny advises on state and federal compliance issues, subrogation and hospital lien claims.

In 1989 Mr. Novotny earned a J.D. cum laude from Creighton University where he was a member of the Moot Court Team and Moot Court Board of Directors. He is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association, and admitted to practice in Nebraska as well as before the federal courts in Nebraska and Arizona, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Defense Counsel Association of Nebraska, and the Defense Research Institute and the Heartland Risk Management Society.
