Bryony J. Whitaker joined Lamson Dugan & Murray’s West Des Moines Office as an associate in the litigation department after graduating from the University of Iowa, College of Law. Bryony’s path to Iowa was different than most. Born and raised in England, Bryony first obtained a law degree in the UK before working for a year as a legal conflict’s analyst at the law firm Squire Patton Boggs. There, she performed conflict checks and inceptions for new clients globally. Bryony then moved to the US to attend the University of Iowa.
Bryony has spent the last several years honing her litigation skills to assist in obtaining favorable verdicts for the firm’s clients. Bryony has competed in both national and international mooting competitions. In her first year at the University of Iowa, College of Law, she became the youngest student ever from the University to be selected for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team. Following this, she scored in the top 25% of individual oralists out of over 2000 students from more than 80 jurisdictions around the world. She was also a member of the Trademark advocacy team at Iowa, competed in the UKSLA National Criminal Law Moot and the Landmark Chambers National Property Law Moot.
While at law school, Bryony gained practical legal experience working as a law clerk for a US-based Fortune 500 company. In this role she was given great levels of responsibility, including negotiating contracts with a top ten global logistics provider, assisting with drafting policy manuals to be distributed to sales representatives throughout the US and Canada, and educating employees on antitrust laws.
Bryony has been downhill skiing since a young age, and enjoys hitting the slopes at any opportunity. On her spare weekends, she regularly explores all the wonderful events Des Moines has to offer, and frequents the Omaha zoo.
