Mr. Barrett is in private practice as counsel to Lamson, Dugan and Murray and concentrates on regulatory insurance matters, corporate law projects and reinsurance matters, including commutations and arbitrations. He serves as a consultant for Mutual of Omaha.

Before becoming associated with the Firm in 1990, Mr. Barrett was Chief Counsel to Mutual of Omaha Insurance Companies and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Central National Insurance Group. He served on the Board of Directors of Nebraska Blue Cross and Blue Shield from 1989-1995, and currently serves on the boards of directors of AFLAC. From 1961-1967, he served as Director of Insurance for the State of Nebraska and was President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 1966-1967. He currently serves as President Emeritus of the Passe’ Club International of the NAIC.

Mr. Barrett is a member of the American Arbitration Association and is listed in the Reinsurance Association of America Arbitrators Directory and the Reinsurance Directory in the Arbitrator, Umpire and Expert Witness Section. He is also a member of AIDA Reinsurance & Insurance Arbitration Society. He is currently an honorary member of the Board of Governors of the National Association of Independent Insurers of which he served as Chairman in 1980-1981. He was on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Credit Insurance Association from 1967-1988 and Chairman in 1976-1977. He is currently a member of the Federation of Insurance Counsel. In 1998, Mr. Barrett was selected for membership in the Nebraska Junior Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame.

Mr. Barrett has been advisor to the Commissioners on Uniform State Laws for Truth and Lending, Insurance Law Section. He also was a faculty member of the College of Insurance Seminar for Insurance Commissioners and key department personnel.

Mr. Barrett was Chairman of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Coalition to Study Health Care in Nebraska. He is a member of the Insurance Market Reform Tax Force. Mr. Barrett currently serves as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging.

Mr. Barrett holds a B.S. in law and L.L.B. from the College of Law, University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
